Citius, Altius, Fortius, Fo’Shizzle

If you’re looking for the creme de la creme of the Calgary MC scene, you need to throw on your old ’88 SunIce parka and head to the National Music Centre on Saturday, where the 2013 Freestylimpics will crown a new champion.

The Freestylimpics will challenge local MCs, both as individuals and as part of their crews. Hosted by Teekay from Dragon Fli Empire and Jaynova, with judges Ricca Razor Sharp, RS Poe and Pleasant, the night will include individual competition for creativity and a 7-to-smoke competition, finishing with a Crew Battle between Contraverse and the Jazzlib Collective.

Tickets are ten bucks, which gets you in the door with five draw tickets for a wide variety of prizes. Competitors can win, too, with prizes for individuals including studio time at Brotherman Studios, exclusive rights to beats by Harm Productions, and athletic apparel from the Athlete Factory. The winning crew gets a $100 donation from Hip Hop for Humanity, in their name, towards a local charity.
